Protect Your Basement From Flooding
When a flood strikes, some people struggle to get home while others suffer at home. Anytime we hear about flooding on the news or experience it first hand, we’re reminded of the fact that a flood can occur in the blink of an eye and cause serious damage. Basement flooding is perhaps one of the most common flooding problems that can burden your home and your family. The costs associated with repairing damages are astronomical when compared to what you would have spent to install devices capable of preventing your home from flooding in the first place.
Putting a Basement Flood into a Little Perspective
Think the installation of a sump pump or backwater valve is an unnecessary hassle and expense? Think again. Imagine what a basement flood might entail for you and your property. Let’s set aside the typical repair costs that include flooring, walls and doors. What about all of your possessions? Your furniture, electronics, photos, artwork and personal items that simply cannot be replaced? You can’t put a price on this kind of loss.
With the City of backwater valve rebate program in place, the costs for installation are even less! Considering recent weather fluctuations and extreme tendencies, added protection isn’t exactly a bad idea. If you make the decision to prevent basement flooding in your home, you may just be saving you and your family a lot of heartbreak, grief and money in the future.
Keeping Your Basement Dry
After a long cold winter, the weather warms up and the rain falls down. Snow begins to thaw…so where does all that water go? As a homeowner, you may just find yourself faced with a damp basement!
Whether it’s caused by broken drain pipes or the city sewage system backing up into your home, flooding can be avoided. To prevent a wet basement come springtime, follow these helpful tips:
- Shovel snow away from your home.
Many people like to pile snow right up against their house and this is a bad idea because when the snow starts to melt, it can find ways into the foundation of your home and the basement.
- Examine the perimeter of your home.
- Make sure the grading of your yard is sloping away from the house.
- Fix any cracks in the foundation, walls or windows.
- Keep underground window wells clean.
While it can be difficult to see whether or not you have openings in a finished basement, keeping your window wells clean can ensure that water doesn’t make its way through any cracks.
- Install a backwater valve.
This is a basement flood protection device that attaches to your sewer line. If the city sewer starts to back up, the valve automatically closes and prevents your basement from flooding. Many insurance companies will actually reduce your premiums if you have a backwater valve.
- Install a sump pump.
A sump pump takes water away from your foundation drainage. Remember to add a battery backup to your sump pump. During heavy rainfalls, we often lose power so it’s important that you have some kind of backup system in place. A battery will typically last 8 to 12 hours. If you want something more secure, a backup generator can last for several days.
- Examine your drain systems.
Did you know that 60% of basement floods are a result of ageing sewer systems? If your house is older than 35 years, you more than likely have a clay drain underneath the floor, and unfortunately, these can become cracked easily by tree roots. Roots are very unpredictable and when spring hits, they really start to grow. If you have large trees on your property, it’s a good idea to have your drains inspected.

He explained everything he was trying to do to unplug our problem. Unfortunately, after trying several attempts he was unable to clear the problem because the block was major and a long way down the piping. But amazingly Drain Rescue will have a crew 1st thing tomorrow morning with the heavy equipment needed to finish the job. The total price was very fair. We feel very lucky to have found Drain Rescue and won't hesitate to recommend or use them again !

They completed the job very quickly.
I will call them again should I need any other help.
Worst plumbers ever. I called them saying exactly what I needed, an O ring replacement. Plumber shows up to my house, later than what he said, looks at my sink tells me it’s an issue with my O ring and said he doesn’t have a replacement in his van. What kind of technician doesn’t have ANY spare parts on the job with them ? Especially when I informed them about the problem when I made the call in the first place ?
Extremely disappointed. Save yourself the trouble and just go on YouTube and do it yourself.

I had a fantastic experience with Marek! He was quick to respond, incredibly efficient, and got the job done right the first time. Not only was the service top-notch, but the pricing was also very reasonable — truly affordable without cutting corners. Friendly, professional, and reliable — I highly recommend him to anyone needing plumbing work done!
Highly recommend!
The technician Marek was polite, prompt and very knowledgeable in resolving my drainage clog.
Will definitely go back to them if I have any future drain issues! :)
After some discussion with Marek, the painful decision was made to replace the entire main sewage line to solve the problem once and for all. A team was called in the following morning and work started right away, which included ripping up part of the basement flooring and digging deep into the front lawn. The work went smoothly all to way until the job was properly finished in three and a half days. I must commend on the professionalism of Marek's team - they clearly know exactly what to do and were always courteous, friendly, and helpful. A few names that come to mind are Oleg, Andrew and Dmitri, the team work was, without exception, efficiently and expertly done.
Not that I would like to see these pros any time soon again, but I would definitely recommend Drain Rescue Services Corp to anyone who unfortunately had to deal with similar problems as the one we had.
The work also involved digging in our basement for the pipe connection. The men put down coverings to protect our floors in the areas where they would work. When the work was completed the inside and outside of our home were left very clean.
We are extremely happy with the work done. Thank you Roman and your team of excellent workers. I give Drain Rescue 5 plus!
We had a completely blocked drain on a Sunday night due to old clay pipes broken by tree roots. As the waste water started backing up into our basement floor, I frantically search for a plumbing company and found Drain Rescue Plumbers. I called and Roman responded promptly. A crew with him arrived within two hours, used a drain camera to confirm the blockage, and explained the issue clearly. By late afternoon on Monday, they had already replaced the damaged drain, working efficiently even in early winter conditions.
Their professionalism, speed, and quality of work were outstanding. I highly recommend Drain Rescue Plumbers to anyone needing drain repairs.
He did a great job with mighty fine service and saved our sanity.
Thanks so much!
